How to survive a quarantine with your kids without going nuts!!

We’re all spending a lot more time at home thanks to the scary COVID-19 pandemic that we, as a world are facing. Finding ways to pass time and not let the days pass by without us doing anything productive can be difficult and if you are a mum, it can be even more challenging to find ways to keep your kids healthy, fit and active throughout this period. I’ve come up with a few fun ideas to help you out and keep your kids entertained and away from spending their day in front of a screen.

  1. Get outside:
If you’re lucky enough to have a garden or outside space, let your kids spend some time running outside. Give them a ball to kick around, or invest in some rackets or bats that they can use to play cricket or tennis. Buy them a bike and get them ridding around the compound or garden. Why not join in with them and make it even more fun? This way you’ll be sneaking in some exercise as well!
  1. Dance the blues away:
Put on some music and get them dancing. Tell your kids to come up with a dance routine and to put on a show for you once they’re done! This will keep them busy and moving for some time and music and dance is always up-lifting. Show off your dancing skills and teach them some moves also!
  1. Create an obstacle course:
Garden or no garden, this can be done anywhere! Create an obstacle course for your little one and for yourself. Children usually mimic what they see. If they see you working out and staying active, they’ll do the same. Have different stations for different workouts. Jumping jacks, hops, skips, push-ups, sit-ups. Put on some fast paced music and start moving!
  1. Healthy baking:
Along with working out and staying active, a vital part to staying healthy is eating correctly. There are plenty of healthy and easy recipes for desserts and different foods on the internet. Get your children involved and let them help you in creating some tasty treats. Not only will this keep them entertained and let them have fun, but it will also teach them the importance of nutritious and nourishing foods and that not everything has to be full of sugar!
  1. Mind matters:
Let’s not forget that looking after our minds is so important. Strengthen your kids minds by letting them do crosswords, word searches, puzzles and any other games you can think of. Setting aside time to paint or draw will let their creative sides shine. Join in with them and keep your mind active also!

There are plenty of ways to keep your kids active and away from constantly sitting on the couch and watching stuff or spending their time on the laptop. Use this time to spend quality time with your kids and show them that there are plenty of fun ways to stay active and be productive!
